Monobase Wind, a pioneering engineering company specializing in offshore wind technology, proudly announces that the MSPAR floating offshore wind turbine foundation, developed in partnership with Daewoo Engineering & Construction (Daewoo E&C), has received Approval in Principle (AIP) certificate from Det Norske Veritas (DNV), an internationally accredited certification body.
The collaboration between Monobase Wind and Daewoo E&C began in 2021, focusing on advancing the technology for floating offshore wind turbine foundations. In March 2022, the two companies successfully completed Conceptual Design, model tests at the Oceanide facilities in France, and Basic Design for their innovative MSPAR foundation.
The MSPAR foundation, a hybrid of semi-submersible and SPAR foundation designs, is engineered for full assembly at the quayside. This unique foundation is capable of supporting 15-25MW offshore wind turbines in water depths exceeding 80 meters. Its design addresses the complexities of onshore logistics, optimising use of local supply chains and practical quayside assembly, excellent motion behaviour in varied sea conditions, ensuring stability and resilience.
Monobase Wind’s MSPAR foundation has been tested to withstand wind speeds up to 61 meters per second and wave heights of 22 meters, showcasing its robustness in challenging marine environments. This technological advancement marks a significant milestone, reinforcing Monobase Wind’s leadership and commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
Following the AIP achievement, Monobase Wind and Daewoo E&C are now gearing up for a full-scale demonstration of the MSPAR foundation, scheduled for 2026/2027. This demonstration will validate the foundation’s performance in real-world conditions, paving the way for large-scale commercial deployment and further establishing the companies’ roles as innovators in the offshore wind sector.
“With the recent Approval in Principle for the MSPAR foundation, Monobase Wind is poised to play a crucial role in upcoming offshore wind projects, including those in Korea” said David Hoek, Commercial Director from Monobase Wind. “We are dedicated to continuous research and development in the renewable energy sector and look forward to furthering our involvement in pioneering floating offshore wind projects worldwide.”
Monobase Wind remains at the forefront of engineering excellence, driving innovation in the renewable energy landscape. The company’s commitment to developing cutting-edge solutions underscores its mission to contribute to a sustainable and cleaner future.
